National Day of Prayer Deemed Unconstitutional

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20002706-503544.html

“Yesterday, a U.S. District Judge in Wisconsin ruled that the annual National Day of Prayer is unconstitutional.”

BUT

“In a Tweet, the White House said that regardless of the ruling, the president still “intends to recognize a National Day of Prayer.” The decision does not ban the president from issuing a proclamation, the White House said.”

How is it possible that the president thinks he can knowingly do something that has been deemed by a Federal Judge to be unconstitutional. Is this an example of religion being privileged in America?

I donated to FFRF to support their defense of this decision. A President who taught Constitutional law should have the guts to stand up to theocrats and tell them “Enough is enough! We weren’t founded on your religion and we don’t want it involved in our government!” …Alas, maybe in the 2nd term (speaking as if that were a given).

This is quite a non-issue. We don’t need the federal government to have a National Day of Prayer. Why do we need government approval? We don’t. I’d just as soon see the Wisconsin judge’s ruling stand.

    Gus,
Barack Obama is a one-termer (speaking as if that were a given 8-)

No he isn’t, and do you want a Conservative who will take away gay rights, be outwardly disrespectful to Atheists, and take this country back? You’re foolhardy for even suggesting. At least think of the SCOTUS noms, if anything that should be one reason you don’t want a Republican as President.

No, and I’m an Atheist but you need to realize that its a DISTRICT judge not the Supreme Court, plus you just said the court didn’t bar him from supporting it. I hate that he will, but this isn’t a valid reason to call out the President, sorry.

It must be incredibly frustrating living in the USA and watching your elected leaders pandering to the Religious Right and giving your taxes to these same people to push their religious agenda.
Even more annoying is how these “Christians” single out Atheists as the source of all evil, your Media and Government has been hijacked by these religious gangsters.
Does the US really need anymore religious wacko’s like Sarah Palin I think not.

Sometimes it’s embarrassing to be from the USA. The president actually has to kiss the asses of people who actually believe that they have invisible magical superfriends.
