Yeah, but the religious have never been a people who value rational thinking anyway.

As a religious person, I both value rational thinking and think this picture is hilarious.

For people who neither have an understanding of basic human biology or been taught what thinking is and how to do it, it is a difficult concept.
(Not that being ignorant is an excuse, given the ridiculous amount of information out on the Internet about this. However, it takes effort and motivation to go search for it, two things that the general public don’t seem to be very good at.)

Those of you who don’t think life has worth at all stages should never have sex. Just a note, no I’m not religious.

This image is full of horrible logic. No one is saying a sperm and egg are humans. Is a fetus at 2 months a human?

It is a fertilized embryo. Most anti-abortion rights people state that the moment of conception is when it is human. Yes, a fetus is human tissue, but it is not a human being.

Where and how do you draw the line on human tissue and human being?

      • April 14, 2011 at 10:32 pm | #9

        physiological independence.

Are poor children less human? A premature baby can achieve physiological independence in the developed world with medical assistance, whereas the developing world it will have no chance.

This picture makes no sense. These things are at an early stage of development for their respective kind. The accidents of course will change as the stages advance while the substance remains the same (DNA coding). For example cooking. We say, “I am going to make a pie.” We do not say, “the pie becomes a pie when it is cooked.” The substance is the pie or ingredients and the accidents of course is the outward appearance of that pie while it is being made.

Good stuff, but most religious people have never accepted any sort reason, their blind faith blocks anything except their pro life view.
Thankfully here in Australia we have an openly Atheist Prime Minister (Julia Gillard) and women have access to abortion without having to travel to a religious free zone.
We like things the way they they are here we have no desire to emulate the US which has more than it’s fair share of religious wacko’s. Abortion does not rate on the political agenda here despite the efforts of George Pell an Australian Cardinal and bigot.

I would be very interested in knowing when you think it is OK to dismember the product of conception. At what stage of development?
Please give a specific explanation for your answer.

    • September 7, 2011 at 3:10 am | #14

      Until birth.

      • September 7, 2011 at 1:04 pm | #15

How do you know that it is OK?
        Why did you choose birth?
Would it be OK to tear apart a baby w/o anesthesia 1 minute before birth?
How much of the baby’s body can be inside the mother’s body before it becomes not-OK to dismember him?
