Mission Statement

The proper title of this blog should be “We Don’t Need Religion.” I chose the present title because it is still accurate, but also amuses me. The only distinction I need to make is that it doesn’t matter whether or not we “need” god, because there is no such thing as god.

The purpose of this blog is the destroy various myths surrounding religion in our times. Those myths include the assertion that human beings somehow need religion. We don’t. In fact, I have come to the conclusion that religion is a force for evil, in society and in each person’s personal life.

This blog will promote the ideal and fact that a person can live a happy, fulfilling and moral life, without religion, god, or any belief in superstition.

If you are a religious person and anything I write offends you; too bad. The entire body of religious work offends me, and should offend any person of self-esteem. Religion is not above criticism.

Hey, I have been checking out your blog today and wanted to tell you I really appreciate your thoughtfulness when it comes to thinking about matters of belief & worldview. I am a follower of Jesus myself, so we disagree on most points, but I respect your voice in this dialogue. I myself have often asked many of the questions you examine here, and do not claim to have all the answers. If you are interested, my blog tells some of my own journey with my faith & hard times. If you go back to the first post and read from there, you will understand.

By the way, I hope you will take lightly some of the hateful comments that Christians have posted in response to your blogs. For many of us, your conclusions would be very scary and cause us to lash out in anger or hate. Please remember we’re not perfect, but more importantly, I want you to know that I don’t believe God responds in this manner to questioning. If you ever decide that there is something compelling about the idea of a relationship with God, I believe He would be waiting & welcoming you with open arms.

Brother, I hope we keep in touch. Best to you, your daughter, and the rest of your fam.

A person wrote me to tell me that I was proffering mere opinion…as distinct from the facts of theologians. Interesting, huh? Well, I posted on the matter.

    Nice post!

    Congratulations on starting your weblog!

In the long, long fight for a better world, there are many empty spaces at the barricades. Your weblog will help fill one of those spaces.

My own special interest is the debate over reason and mysticism: http://reasonversusmysticism.blogspot.com/

There are others, such as Dawson Bethrick’s Incinerating Presuppositionalism: http://bahnsenburner.blogspot.com/

Gradually, the spaces at the barricades are filling up.
